Camp Ohana Campus
Introduction
The cross-cultural aspect of Camp Ohana is rooted in the name “Ohana,” which is a Hawaiian word meaning “family”.
Ohana as a concept is not restricted in meaning to the traditional nuclear family, but rather encompasses an extended meaning of family that includes all individuals in a certain social group.
Overview
A primary objective of Camp Ohana is to create an environment where each child feels he or she is an integral part of the camp’s extended family. Children who attend Camp Ohana will experience all that the Hawaiian culture has to offer.
Children will learn how the Hawaiian culture is both similar to and different from their own culture. This experience will provide a unique perspective on how cultures can come together to celebrate differences and to embrace common values.
