woman01_300x200.jpg200 local families will have free access to clean, safe, water.

Our goal is to raise a total of USD $40,000 for the construction and maintenance of a clean water borehole at the Camp Ohana site. So far we have raised USD $28,000 toward our goal.

Overview

The Camp Ohana site is located approximately 28 miles southwest of Nairobi in Kajiado District. The region is classified as arid and semi-arid, and has a population of about 200,000 people. Water coverage in the region is rated at 28%, compared to the national average of 49%. Sanitation coverage is equally low at 26%, compared to the national rural average of 52%.

The construction of a borehole at the Camp Ohana site will provide clean water to approximately 200 families (1,200 people) that live in the immediate area.

The borehole will alleviate the need for temporary measures that the Camp Ohana Foundation has undertaken to serve the children and the local community. The Foundation currently purchases and transports 10,000 liters (2,640 gallons) of water every week for their agricultural education program and provides this water free of charge to the immediate local community. While these temporary measures have been somewhat effective, more permanent measures are required in order to meet the local needs and to ensure a long-term solution.
